A little late, but oh well!
Chapter Three
References:
*The spectral prism muskets come from BLoSC's "A Zoo Out There" but the dark side of the moon mortars are my own invention. The muskets from the episode, to me, resembled the logo for the band Pink Floyd so I ran with the theme for the mortars by incorporating in the "Dark Side of the Moon" album Easter egg. For the record, their music isn't really my thing, but if it means scoring in - no pun intended - another way to expand the Chlorms' weaponry, so be it.
*The Zarf Network and the Chlorms' show also come from the aforementioned episode.
*Continuing on the note of weaponry, the pyonty grenades come from a property I do enjoy: Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I combined the names Monty Python to name the bombs as well as give a nod to the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. Too bad the Chlorm aren't killer rabbits. 😆

*This isn't the first time Ozma called a Space Ranger a rescue ranger. She did it in "The Beasts of Karn", and of course, the term is a Disney cross-reference to the show, "Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers". Fun fact; Tad Stones worked on both shows!
*For the life of me, I really don't remember where the name Silver Bite came from. Thought... it might have come from the titular character of Jack London's novel, White Fang.
General:
*At least, we meet the Chlorm in the flesh. When I was first coming up with the plot, I was in the middle of rewatching BLoSC after having not seen it for so long, and this episode introduced the Chlorm to me for the first time. As I did, it occurred to me that both parties both encountered animals, and so has Ozma. Outside of anyone involved with Star Command, Zurg, NOS-4-A2 and XL, Ty - like other recurring characters - hasn't interacted with anyone else from the show. Likewise with Ozma, except she has interacted with the Space Rangers, Zurg, Swack and Madame President (well, not really, but I threw this bit in because they were in "Return to Karn" together). Toss Ozma, Ty and Chlorm together into the same bowl, and the BLoSC world has gotten bigger outside of Star Command's number one fighting unit. Ozma and Ty are cordial (or trying to be in Ty's case) and both aren't fond of the Chlorm for different reasons.
But I also needed a reason for why the Chlorm would want to interact with Ty and Ozma. Add in my desire to implement in a paramilitary dog to act as a companion for Ty and expand on Star Command's branches of service, and lo, a reason was born. The Chlorm become desperate to find a different sort of animal that would garner the attention of viewers on their homeworld. An animal that can break the sound barrier would fit their need, but Proxy isn't going to fulfill it after hearing the nasty things they've done to Team Lightyear and for being jerks in general. Ozma won't stand for it, out of love for animals. And Ty won't, because he takes his job seriously as a Space Ranger, and he knows what it's like to be tormented as an animal. He won't let that happen to Proxy if he can help it.

*The original draft for this chapter was incredibly different - Proxy fired off a number of flowery insults and the Chlorm had thinner skins so they couldn't brush her words off so easily. Of course, they still attacked when she called them 'lesser beings', but in the original draft, she came up with names that looking back, they probably would have ignored her. And the names she threw at them are really... okay, they're not terrible, but there's a time and a place for them. I'll have to use them for something else. But! By throwing the term they use to describe everyone who's not them, I think that would have been enough to make them flip out and try to get Proxy because yes, how dare she throws their own term against them.
*A fire did break out in the old text, but it didn't happen until after the parties split apart like it did here. Instead, the fire started during the fight and they took to the skies, where Silver Fang and the Chlorm would have followed them before they were brought down by a storm. That storm would have saved our heroes' lives and put out the fire.

*Ozma didn't order Proxy to run away in the first version. Ty carried her in his arms as they all flew away from the fire. Having her running away for her own safety (and Ozma urging her to get out of the danger zone) felt more realistic than to have Ty carrying her into the sky.
*Plus, upon a reviewing of the older work, I was jumping way ahead with the relationship between Proxy and Ty. Here, they're friendly to each other, but they're not close. Actually, that reminds me of a detail I forgot to mention in the last Special Features post: in the old version, they became somewhat close via talking and getting to know each other after Proxy did her job of herding, but I axed it for this story because it felt like I was rushing the growth of their bond. While talking and asking questions to one another is a good way to understand the person you're talking to, doing is another way and sometimes the most vital way. The way I"m developing their interactions feels more organic and true to their characters.

*Why didn't the Chlorm use Team Lightyear as bait for Proxy? They know TL's tricks by now, and there's no way they would want to face them after being defeated and humiliated by them the first time round. That, and they needed Proxy's partner Ozma and Ty - a non-TL Space Ranger - to help them get Proxy out into the open for a trap. I also wanted to use Ty to get him out on his own adventure where he could take charge of the situation since the original show didn't do that.
*Everything else after Ozma and Ty were captured, barring the fire and storm, are completely new additions to the plot.
*The shelter Ozma mentions is a detail that I came up with to explain where Proxy would be hiding. I also used this feature to nurture Ozma and her concern for non-animal life. She's still not completely a people person, but just like Buzz and his willingness to approach animals with a more humane touch to make her happy, she's willing to budge on some things to make him happy: that is, his concern for the safety of others. Hence, the shelter was brought aboard.
*Ty being testy with Ozma is a small plot in development. Where will it lead? We shall find out.
